Overcome The Summer Slow Down With These Tips
Summer is in full swing now and many commercial real estate professionals say the summer months are their slowest time of the year. With clients traveling, kids out of school, and the beautiful weather outside it can be tempting to slow down a bit. While it’s important to have a good work/life balance, you can use the slower summer months to your advantage with these tips:
Set Your Fall and Winter Goals
Keep your eye on the prize! What goals are you hoping to accomplish by the end of the year? Whether it’s a financial goal, a certain amount of closed transactions, or gaining a set number of new clients, now is the time to focus on those goals and make your game plan. I like to set ambitious goals that really push me, but keep those ambitious goals within a realistic reach. It may help to break your goals down into smaller milestones, such as accomplishing a certain amount each month until you reach your final end goals. Take advantage of the summer months to be as productive as you can.
Keep Your Standard Office Hours
Your office may seem a bit more quiet than usual over the summer, but coming in late or leaving early may result in missed opportunities for you. It’s best to stick to your normal daily and weekly routine that includes prospecting for new clients, working on your existing deals, and effectively marketing your existing listings. Keep in mind that prospects and clients may take a bit longer to reply to you during the summer months, but even when people are on vacation they still tend to check their emails at least once per day. Since many other commercial real estate agents may decrease their prospecting efforts, you will stand out from the crowd if you continue on.
Go On Vacation
I’m sure you work really hard and deserve a nice vacation…so go! Enjoy the beach, have some fun experiences, and come back nice and refreshed. It’s easy to get burnt out, so a nice vacation can help you reset and get focused again. In the long run, people who take vacations are usually more productive when they’re in their office. If you do go on vacation, I highly suggest that you check and reply to your emails at least once per day (you don’t want to miss out on a new client or a deal proposal). It’s also good practice to communicate with your team so they know how to reach you if needed. You may also want to have a quick chat with your clients to see what their summer vacation plans are so you know how to reach them when an offer comes through.
