We cannot deny our love of Microsoft Excel, or spreadsheets of any kind, for that matter. Why? because the concept is a simple list format of columns and rows. It is easy to follow and takes virtually no time to perform basic data entry. Oh, also, everybody knows how to use one! So no training needed!
So, due to popular demand, and for those members of theBrokerList who just cannot get enough spreadsheets and for those who really are organized and methodical about their data, we are rolling out a new feature that enables an export of all HAVE data posts from tBL as well as a tool to IMPORT and manage your HAVE posts inside tBL.
What does that mean and how does it work? It is fairly basic, but the complex part is that your data must be clean and organized and follow a form that our system likes and understands. That is what is difficult for many to grasp, but it is rather easy once you stop to understand it. There are certain fields that require the data in a certain format. That is the hard part, but it is not really difficult to learn.
For instance, in the field for PostalCode, we only accept 5 digits. In the field for StateAbbrv, we only accept the format that is depicted on our Mapped Values page. For CountryCode, you must use USA if you are from the United States or find your CountryCode on the Mapped Values page.
The more tricky field and really the most important, is PropertyType. The field must be identical in form to our Mapped Values. So what that means is you must use the same word and spelling and spacing as shown on our Mapped Values for PropertyType. It is like a drop down box on a form, but instead you get to know what the data should be entered there and Excel remembers it next time since you use it in that column over and over again. It makes for super fast data entry.
For the Amount column, we only need the basic number, like 1000000 for a million, but do not use decimals, commas or dollar signs. Remember, this is data talking to code, so it likes it clean and easy to digest.
In addition, on our manual input form, we do not ask for lease rate data, so you ONLY enter Amount if the HAVE is a For Sale post. Since leasing rates and formats for leasing rates are so varied around the country and the world, we leave that to be entered in Description (Comments/Additional Features) only.
We have been testing this new feature with some of our power users in beta, but we are gearing up to roll this out to more folks. If you wish to try this out, please let us know so we can release this feature for your Company or just study this new feature in our slideshare below and once we make it public, you can start to use it.
We just want everyone ready for the changes so when they open their HAVE icon, after we launch the new feature, they are not surprised by the new controls as shown below:
We send huge thanks to our beta users on this feature. Your input and feedback has been invaluable!
