Sometimes, fostering that culture means taking a midday break to celebrate the holidays a few months early. Our team gathered to do exactly that during our highly anticipated Christmas in July event.
A Festive Midsummer Gathering in the MDL Ristorante
Taking a well-deserved break from managing properties and closing transactions, the team stepped away from their desks and into the MDL Ristorante, our central hub for meals and socializing. The space was filled with classic and cheerful Christmas music, bringing a festive holiday spirit right into the middle of the Nevada summer.
No MDL Group celebration is complete without incredible food. This year, the team organized a massive nacho potluck. Team members signed up in advance to bring their favorite nacho toppings, savory appetizers, and sweet desserts. Sharing a meal is a cornerstone of team building, and the diverse spread was a massive hit.
The Rules of the White Elephant Gift Exchange
The highlight of the hour was the White Elephant gift exchange. To keep things fair and family-friendly, participation required bringing a new, wrapped gift with a $25-limit that was strictly rated R or lower.
For those unfamiliar with how our competitive group plays White Elephant, the rules were simple but led to plenty of strategic maneuvers:
- Every participant brought a wrapped gift and placed it in the designated gathering area.
- We drew numbers to determine the order of selection.
- The first person unwrapped a gift of their choice, and the fun truly began with the second player, who could either choose a new wrapped gift or steal the previously opened item.
- If a team member had their gift stolen, they could pick a new gift from the pile or steal from someone else, though they could not steal back the exact item they just lost in the same round.
- To keep the game moving, any single gift was considered frozen and out of play after it had been stolen three times.
The exchange was filled with laughter, unexpected surprises, and a little bit of friendly rivalry over the most coveted items.

Events like our Christmas in July party are essential to our operations. Commercial real estate is a fast-paced industry that requires constant communication, trust, and collaboration. By bringing our staff together for shared meals and lighthearted games, we strengthen the internal bonds that translate directly into better service for our clients.
