Kevin Itima was born in Houston, Texas graduated from Jackson State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Magna Cum Laude and finished his Master in Public Administration from the University of Houston. His education, specifically his Master’s, helps him understand how local government policy affect the housing stock and profitability for investors. His interest in real estate was sparked by his father who encouraged his curiosity and set the example by buying investment properties in Nigeria.
Prior to relocating to Chicago, Kevin ran his own real estate investment firm in Houston and Atlanta where he cut his teeth on fix and flips, new construction, and value-add multifamily acquisitions. These experiences have not only taught him the hands-on lessons that investors must learn but also afforded him the ability to watch the dynamic changes in market cycles across several cities. Upon his move to Chicago, he completed his commercial real estate analysis and investment from MIT School of Architecture and Planning.
At Root, he uses his intimate knowledge of real estate investing to help advise owners and buyers on practical and pragmatic strategies based on their overall goals. Within the city of Chicago Kevin specializes with owners who have 5-60 units in Bronzeville, Woodlawn, Washington Park, and South Shore with buildings in any condition as well as buyers who are looking to invest in multi-unit property across Chicago.
