A couple of years ago, my business coach gifted me a year subscription to Success Magazine. What I love about it is how much I have learned about the different generations and how they each prefer to work. One thing that struck me as rather odd was that the idea that businesses generally do not team up two Generation Y members of the opposite sex because they will view it as a date. How strange! I thought to myself, surely, this can’t be true – so I started talking with some of the young professionals I knew, and they agreed. As a small organization this is not something we will have a lot of control over but it is certainly something to keep in mind. The article in question also suggested that when hiring a younger generation, have them start on any day other than Monday, as apparently, this puts them in a better state of mind. I have learned lots of tips about the younger generations from Success and I think the knowledge I have gleaned from the magazine allows me to treat the Generation Y members I hire in the best way possible.
I thank my coach for so many lessons learned, including the gift of knowledge. Because my coach gifted me with the subscription to Success Magazine, and it made me feel just a bit smarter this year, I have now gifted a subscription, this past holiday season, to many of our clients.
I wanted to share this story with my colleagues as we often struggle with what we can give as gifts to our clients and today, with budgets tight, a magazine subscription can be a valuable gift in so many ways. Also, many of the magazines offer online viewing or paper viewing so it can satisfy those that use tablets and other devices to keep up on their reading. Planning for holiday gifts takes time, so plan now and be ready for the upcoming holiday season.
