“GET TO KNOW BRES” – Meet one of our newest commercial real estate brokers at Block Real Estate Services, LLC (BRES).
1. Where did you grow up and where do you live now?
I grew up in Overland Park, Kansas and I currently live in the west plaza neighborhood of Kansas City.
2. What did you want to do when you were growing up?
I wanted to be a fiscally responsible adult with adult like responsibilities. Now that I am one, though, I feel like I’m still a big kid at heart. Firefighter, Police Officer, Mayor of Overland Park, News Anchor/Reporter, lawyer.
3. What was your first job?
I was a flooring installation specialist for one summer. Essentially, I was my father’s right hand man.
4. Describe your career.
My career is awesome. I get the opportunity to pursue new business each day and I can learn every day about the area that I live in. I work on selling apartment complexes and hotels in the Kansas City area to interested investors. I also work on serving the commercial real estate needs for individuals who are looking to invest back in the Kansas City community.
5. How did you end up working as a broker at BRES?
I had the opportunity to take a CCIM class with several of my current colleagues at the company in February 2014. After taking the class and my homesickness starting to kick in, I decided to start my licensing exams for Kansas and Missouri for my eventual return. I let one of the colleagues know that I planned to be home soon, so he put me in touch with the right individual, who is the VP of brokerage, Lou Serrone. Another connection that led me to BRES was a family member also had worked for BRES. Every time I spoke to Lou in the months leading up to my arrival in Kansas City, he was always positive and encouraged me to pursue my career with BRES. I see this as a launching pad into a great career in commercial real estate and I haven’t really looked back since.
6. Do you have any immediate or long-term goals within your current position?
I do have a few goals that I would like to accomplish in the time that I am a broker. My most immediate goal is to be the best broker I can be and help make our company grow even stronger than it already is. Long-term, I want to be the go-to guy for multifamily housing in Kansas City and surrounding the surrounding metro area.
7. What is the most important lesson you have learned over the years?
“You take the good and make it your own. You take the bad and leave it alone”
“You give a man a fish, he eats for a day. You teach a man how to fish, he eats for a lifetime”
8. What are your favorite books within your field and for fun?
Within my field, my favorite book is “How to Win Friends and Influence People” by Dale Canegie. For fun, I like anything by John Gresham.
9. What is your must-read publication every day?
My must read publication is The Business Journal Online, and Globe Street, the latter is a real estate publication that looks at every deal that goes on throughout the country. That publication helps me build a prospect list for properties, and I get to learn about each market in the country/world.
