Do you have Piles of Business Cards?
If you have stacks and stacks of business cards on your desk and are looking for a solution to get organized, this edition of Roxy’s Resources will help you eliminate business card piles.
Let’s say you just got back from an ICSC conference and you have collected a large number of business cards. What do you do to make sure you organize and save this coveted data?
What works best for me is an app on my phone called Cam Card. Cam Card is a quick method that gets all those business cards you collect into your phone. With a few minutes to do a quick scan per card, one can make sure their important contacts are easily accessible for future use.
What I love about Cam Card
Cam Card has a search function that I love. Let’s say I remember the first name of a contact and I know I scanned their card but I can’t remember their company name or last name. With Cam Card I can type in that name and it instantly pulls up all the cards I have ever scanned that include that name. Then once I find whom I am looking for, a picture of their business card pops up, along with the rest of their info. From the app, I can then touch the phone or email button, and get in contact with the person I was looking for. Also, this search function can be used for prospecting purposes. For instance, if I want to pull up a list of every card I ever scanned that has the words car wash, I type car wash in the search, and voila I have car wash prospects at my fingertips.
I also like the ability to export your Cam Card scans as a csv file. This comes in handy for mailings and more detailed prospecting. Please note that this export feature may not be part of the free version of Cam Card.
Cam Card Tips
Always double check your scans. Although Cam Card does a pretty good job on its initial scan, you will want to confirm the data prior to saving the card. Also, I highly recommend scanning cards into Cam Card as soon as they come into your possession. After a canvassing trip or a conference, instead of placing the stacks of business cards on my desk, I try my best to immediately scan the cards into Cam Card. When looking for a card in the future, you will be thankful that you have quick access through Cam Card.
