Develop Your Personal Brand To Become A CRE Leader

  • Whether you are new to the commercial real estate industry, or a seasoned professional, it’s important to develop your CRE personal brand. While most people think of big companies when they hear the word “brand”, you have a personal brand image whether you know it or not. Use branding to your advantage to become a leader in the industry with these tips:

    Be Yourself

I know this sounds basic, but you need to be yourself. Putting on a show and trying to be something that you’re not wont work for you in the long run. It’s exhausting but more importantly people can see right through an act. Clients will be drawn to commercial real estate brokers that they can personally connect with.

Let your personality shine and let people know what you’re all about. The right clients will share similar ethics, business beliefs, and personality traits – making them the type of clients that you will get excited to work with.

Know Your Strengths

Everyone has their own set of strengths and weaknesses – and that’s a good thing! The world would be a pretty boring place if we were all the same. Be honest with yourself about what your strengths are. If you’re unsure, ask a couple trusted friends or colleagues. Sometimes people can see different strengths in you than you can see in yourself. Use your strengths to your advantage. What can you do better than any other commercial real estate agent in your area? What skills do you bring to the table that most other people don’t? When you’re in tune with your strengths, you can use them to jump ahead of your competition by using them to your advantage.

Develop Your Personal Brand

Once you are aware of your unique personal qualities, and you’ve identified your core strengths, use them to develop your personal brand. Your “brand” lets other people know what you’re all about. Are you funny or serious? Detailed and organized or more “go with the flow”? Can you see the big picture, or do you prefer to focus on one task at a time? Are you a glass half full or glass half empty person?

While you may be wondering what these things have to do with your commercial real estate business, how you approach life is a huge aspect of your personal brand.

Be Consistent

What if you went to Starbucks and they no longer served coffee? You’d be confused, right? That’s why you need to be consistent with your brand. Potential clients need to know what they will experience if they work with you. It’s up to you to give them accurate expectations. They can learn more about you by following you on social media, your personal website and blog, as well as your email newsletters. Many times, these forms of digital marketing will be the first encounters that prospective clients have with you. Unless you’ve met someone face to face, odds are they are researching online to see who they want to work with. Is your branding consistent across all your online platforms?

When it comes to developing your personal brand, there is no right or wrong. Many people think they have to be perfect or portray an image that they think will attract the most clients. In reality, people connect with real people – flaws and everything! If you’re knowledgeable about the commercial real estate industry, an expert in your local market, and your client’s best interests come first, you’re already on the right track.

I created ClientLook to help commercial real estate companies large and small work better. My goal was to create a CRM solution that was intuitive, smart and adaptable to any specialty. As I’ve always known, making things easy is really hard. I spend my time searching for ways to make the ClientLook experience better by developing innovative approaches to design, pricing and even customer support. We lead across the board.
