If you are one of those people who doesn’t use your smartphone to run several parts of your daily life then good for you. I don’t know who you are, but enjoy your flip phone and Members-Only jacket. Like the other 99.9% of the population, we rely on a smartphone (a little more than we probably should) to function, especially in our daily CRE business.
As a CRE broker we are always on the go. From meetings to showings, the amount of time actually spent at a desk, in front of a computer, is shockingly low. Work is now done in the car, in between meetings, before the signing and after the showing. We are in the cloud people. Being able to run our businesses, and our lives, from the palm of hands is our reality.
To run a successful CRE business via a mobile office (i.e. your smartphone), you need some awesome apps to get the job done. We’ve assembled our top 5 favorite apps for CRE brokers that help save us from mental breakdowns on a daily basis.
In commercial real estate you are an independent contractor and, as such, everything you do related to your business is an expense you can write off. Staying on top of that is basically impossible without help.
This app automates your entire expense tracking process, and it is really easy to use. Functions include: taking photos of and organizing receipts, creating and submitting expense reports, tracking mileage, tracking billable hours and more.
Mileage is a large tax write-off as an independent contractor, and CRE brokers do A LOT of driving. MileIQ is one of our favorite apps for mileage tracking because it is so easy to use and provides great reporting. Also, it constantly runs in the background so you can still use your phone for the 9,999 other things you are doing.
Paperwork, the achilles heel of commercial real estate professionals. Staying on top of it from your desk is tough, but doing so on the road is daunting. Good thing technology exists.
Signing documents is a daily occurrence for CRE professionals, and most of the time those documents needs to be signed RIGHT NOW. With the SignEasy app you don’t have to drop what you are doing and head back to the office. You can sign and send documents from your smartphone no matter where you are.
Phone calls are the go-to, emails get the point across and photos are “worth a thousand words”, but today’s savvy real estate clientele expect you to be able to do it all…on the run.
There is nothing better than a face-to-face meeting when trying to list or sell CRE, but videos are a close second. Whether it’s a live walkthrough of a space without your client ever having to leave their chair, or a call with investors in Japan, with Skype you can video conference from your smartphone with anyone, anywhere.
This may be our favorite app that has ever existed.
Basically SwiftKey is autocorrect that actually works. The app uses AI (artificial intelligence) to actually learn from its user. It tracks your smartphone typing style and gets smarter over time learning personal words, nicknames, commonly misspelled words and phrases that only you use. Big thumbs and slow typing be damned! You can now type like the genius you are.
Coldwell Banker recently released App-thology – A compendium of the best app for today’s real estate professionals and in it they feature the best apps for photography, videos, marketing, productivity and more. With nearly 50 apps reviewed, this comprehensive guide has something for everyone in the real estate business. Hopefully these new apps will help you be more productive and see more results in 2016!
