If you are feeling the pinch of rising rent, and want 3 ways to reduce overhead costs at your law office, then take a few minutes to read this article. Because of modern technology, there are satisfactory ways to reduce your need for office space without compromising your level of service to your clients.

Relocate Back Office Staff
- Law firms typically occupy high quality (and expensive) office space to enhance their brand. This traditional strategy makes sense for the ‘front office’, but the ‘back office’ may work just as well in another, cheaper location. Consider relocating researchers, accountants, and other back office staff to a cheaper floor, a cheaper building, or a cheaper city.
Reduce Office Size by Replacing Law Library
- Your law library can be replaced with digital archives. This will reduce the need for at least one room. Digital archives are actually easier to use through a search function. A lot of space can be conserved by taking the law library digital.
Reduce Office Size by Reducing Meeting Rooms
- The need for space for meetings can be reduced through the use of virtual meetings. Virtual meetings are held over the internet using computer software with audio and video capabilities. Meetings can be set up one-on-one, or as group meetings. An advantage of a virtual meeting space is not only the reduction in overhead costs since less office space is required, it also allows groups from various parts of the country or even overseas to meet at once. If you meet with clients who have significant voices in any large business, and those clients are separated by geography, a virtual meeting allows a “meeting of the minds” with the comfort of everyone remaining in his own “space”. An advantage of this is if any paperwork or documentation needs to be presented, each client respectively will have it at hand in his own office.
